Description The supercharger coupler mates the front drive cover input shaft (also called the nose drive) to the timing gears that spin the supercharger rotors. It isolates the gears and rotors from high torsional inputs generated at the crankshaft due to cylinder-to-cylinder firing variations, primarily at engine idle speeds. These torsional loads can be transmitted from the crankshaft to the supercharger via the drive belt, resulting in ‘rattle’ noises at engine idle speeds, which can result in damage to the supercharger gears and rotors. If your coupler is failing, it will sound like there are rocks rattling around in your supercharger at idle, with the noise diminishing at higher engine speeds and loads. . Replace worn couplers as soon as possible, before they start to damage the supercharger internals.
